Scaffolding for Manhattan buildings

Manhattan buildings run from brownstone walk-ups to towers, and the scaffolding changes with them. Century 21 Contracting Corp, in business since 2004, provides suspended scaffolding, pipe scaffolding and sidewalk sheds for Manhattan facade repairs, inspections and window work.

Taller buildings and facade work

Taller facades need access at height, and the rule that drives much of that work applies citywide, not only in Manhattan. 1 RCNY §103-04 covers “all existing buildings greater than six stories in height.” An Unsafe finding sends protection up immediately. Our page on facade inspections and sidewalk sheds quotes the rule.

Suspended and pipe scaffolding in Manhattan

Suspended scaffolds for taller Manhattan facades

Suspended scaffolds hang from the roof, so crews reach a facade without building up from the sidewalk. Facade repairs, window replacement and restoration on taller Manhattan buildings use them. See our suspended scaffolding page.

Pipe scaffolding for Manhattan walk-ups and setbacks

Pipe scaffolding goes up piece by piece, so it follows the shape of a walk-up, a brownstone or a building with setbacks. See our pipe scaffolding page.

Sidewalk sheds in Manhattan

A shed protects pedestrians below the work. Shed permits run in 90-day terms, and our sidewalk shed rental page covers the permit cycle.

Planning Manhattan jobs around permits and embargoes

NYC DOT puts construction embargoes in place during major events. Its Construction Embargoes page lists the New York City Marathon, parades and the winter holiday season.

Holiday embargo: Sunday, November 15, 2026 through Saturday, January 2, 2027, 6:00AM to 11:59PM.

Per DOT, “all active permits in the affected area(s) are suspended.” DOT approves no new permits during an embargo unless it grants a waiver, and emergency work with an emergency number is exempt.

The embargo covers parts of all five boroughs, and much of Manhattan sits inside it. Whether it changes your install depends on the job, the street and the permit. DOB rules stay citywide, so permit detail lives on the pipe scaffolding and sidewalk shed pages.

If your work falls between November 15 and January 2, tell us early. We confirm what applies to your job.

Suspended scaffolds. They hang from the roof, so crews reach the facade without building up from the sidewalk. Our suspended scaffolding page covers the details.
