Scaffolding and sheds for Brooklyn buildings

Century 21 Contracting Corp builds sidewalk sheds and sets up scaffolding for Brooklyn buildings, and we have done shed work since 2004. Facade repairs, construction and pedestrian protection call for one or both.

What we do in Brooklyn

We build the shed, set up the scaffolding and follow the shed’s permit cycle until it comes down. Our most recent Brooklyn job, in 2023, was 303 Powell Street.

Scaffolding for Brooklyn's rowhouses and older facades

Brooklyn includes attached rowhouses and brownstones, as well as older industrial buildings converted to residential or commercial use. Cornices, stoops, setbacks and narrow sidewalks can affect how scaffolding is configured and where pedestrian protection is needed.

Century 21 assesses the building and planned work before recommending pipe scaffolding, other scaffold systems or a sidewalk shed. Our office is at 1363 White Plains Road in the Bronx, and our Brooklyn project record includes sidewalk shed work at 303 Powell Street in 2023.

Keeping a Brooklyn shed compliant under the 90-day rule

NYC DOB’s 2026 changes introduced a 90-day maximum permit term and manual renewals for affected sidewalk sheds beginning January 26, 2026. On February 2, DOB NOW introduced additional filing questions about the shed and the progress of the work. Permits issued before February 2 expire under the previous rules. The renewal fee is $130 per renewal.

The requirements can depend on the permit and the work involved. Check the current permit details and DOB’s official service notice before scheduling a renewal.

Planning Brooklyn jobs around street restrictions

NYC DOT’s holiday construction embargo runs from Sunday, November 15, 2026 through Saturday, January 2, 2027. DOT names Downtown Brooklyn among the affected areas, and the embargo suspends active street permits there unless DOT grants a waiver. The embargo also reaches other boroughs, so it is not a Brooklyn-only rule. If your Brooklyn work falls in that window, tell us your dates early.
